On May 18, 天美传媒 hosted the 50th reunion for the Class of 1973. Sixty-seven alumni and spouses attended the event.
The reunion included campus tours, a welcome presentation and update from Dordt President Dr. Erik Hoekstra, and an evening banquet where class memories were shared and hymns were sung. The group also spent time reminiscing about their professors, made confessions to pranks they pulled on campus, and remembered the rules they had to follow as students.
鈥淭hey enjoyed walking through the Ribbens Academic Complex and finding the original doors they used to walk to class every day,鈥 says Alicia Bowar, director of alumni relations. 鈥淭his group was also the first 50th reunion class to tour the American State Bank Sports Complex.鈥
Bowar says that the 50th reunion is one of the most valuable and impactful events that Dordt holds. 鈥淚t鈥檚 more than an opportunity to come back to campus to see how Dordt has grown and what has changed,鈥 she says. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a time where classmates who may not have seen each other for decades have an incredible bond because they were students here. It鈥檚 a day of reflection on God鈥檚 faithfulness in their lives, through the joys and sorrow.鈥
Concluding the reunion with hymns felt like the perfect ending to the event, says Executive Assistant for Enrollment and Marketing Kaysha Steiger. 鈥淭o see that sense of camaraderie playing out in the lives of individuals 50 years after they spent four years of their lives together is a testament to God鈥檚 faithfulness.鈥
Bowar is grateful for the many graduates who returned to campus to participate in the reunion. 鈥淢y hope is that those graduates who returned have a deep gratitude for what God has done in their lives and for the education and community they experienced as students,鈥 she says.
