Dordt campus construction is on every corner

"Our responsibility is to steward well what God has entrusted to us. These projects help us continue carrying out Dordt's mission while serving students well for years to come."

From new residence halls and athletic facilities to dormitory and student gathering renovations, construction activity is continuing across nearly every corner of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½'s campus this summer.

A offers a bird's-eye view of several major projects currently underway. According to Vice President for University Operations Fred Verwoerd, the projects represent both a response to continued enrollment growth and God's provision through generous supporters.

"What I hope people see in this video is God's provision. We couldn't do any of this without the generous support of donors who believe in Dordt's mission," he says.

One of the most noticeable projects is the construction of Dordt's newest residence hall, located on the east side of campus. Excavation work has begun, geothermal wells are being installed, and crews are preparing the building site for construction.

Additional parking lots have also been developed, offsetting spaces removed during construction and improving access for students, employees, and others.

Nearby, work continues on the newest Squares residence halls, which are expected to be completed in time for students to move in this fall. Landscaping and recreational improvements are also transforming the surrounding area.

On the west side of campus, the former Dining Commons site is being reimagined. The area will feature new landscaping, updated sidewalks and lighting, and a new sport court for basketball and pickleball.

Construction also continues on the latest phase of the Rozenboom Family Athletic Center expansion. Portions of the facility, including access to locker rooms, are expected to be ready before students return in August, with the remaining work being completed in phases throughout the fall.

In addition to these major projects, crews are installing new sidewalks, updating landscaping, and improving pedestrian connections throughout campus.

Updates are being made to interior spaces on campus as well.

The first floors of North Hall and East Hall are receiving major bathroom renovations designed to modernize spaces that have served generations of Dordt students. The renovations include new tile finishes, expanded sink areas, and updated layouts.

The De Yager Activity Center is also undergoing a transformation. A permanent stage is being added to better support Praise and Worship events on Thursday nights as well as other student events. New carpeting and furnishings are also being added to the space.

"The goal is to create a place that feels like home—a place where students naturally want to spend time together," says Verwoerd.

Another renovation project includes the expansion of Dordt's cadaver laboratory, which serves students in the health sciences. The addition of a third cadaver station will provide more opportunities for hands-on learning as enrollment continues to grow in these academic areas.

"Our responsibility is to steward well what God has entrusted to us," he says. "These projects help us continue carrying out Dordt's mission while serving students well for years to come."
