Dordt theology graduates can complete an M.Div. at Western in as little as two years through a partnership designed to reduce time and cost while strengthening preparation for ministry.
ý has partnered with Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan, to offer theology students a streamlined pathway to a Master of Divinity (M. Div.) degree. Students with a degree in theology from Dordt will be able to complete an M. Div. degree at Western in as little as two years, reducing the overall cost and time required to complete a traditional M. According to Dr. Gayle Doornbos, a professor of theology at Dordt, this partnership is about more than practical benefits such as reduced costs and accelerated timelines. “Our goal is to equip students for work in God’s world and His church by providing a seamless transition between programs while focusing on pastoral and spiritual formation from college through seminary,” she explains.
is an evangelical and ecumenical community of faith and learning in the Reformed tradition that serves the church of Jesus Christ. The seminary equips women and men for Christ-centered, biblically-based, theologically, integrated, culturally competent, and mission-oriented Christian leadership.
By partnering with a Reformed institution, Dordt’s partnership with Western will provide students with a natural transition into advanced theological study, equipping students for faithful service, thoughtful engagement with contemporary culture, and leadership within the Church—all through a Reformed Christian lens.
According to Doornbos, “This partnership seeks to serve the broader community by serving the church and advancing theological and biblical scholarship that is hospitably and generously Reformed, attuned to the needs and concerns of our contemporary contexts.”
This comes at a crucial time for churches. “The need for sound theological education and practical ministry training is widely recognized, especially as churches face increasing shortages of pastors and ministry staff,” explains Rev. Todd Zuidema, director of church relations at Dordt. “Those with gifts for ministry must be identified, encouraged, and equipped through solid education and formation.”
“ý and Western Theological Seminary are well positioned to meet this need,” adds Zuidema. “Their developing partnership offers the potential for an excellent and coherent educational pathway—streamlining coursework and helping students steward their time and financial resources wisely. Because Dordt and Western share strong scriptural and doctrinal foundations, students can expect consistency and continuity as they are prepared to serve the Church.”
